Moistens, Soothes Digestive & Respiratory Tissues
Marshmallow Root is best known for how it benefits the mucous membranes of the body. Today’s “marshmallows” originated from Marshmallow Root, but they are “marshmallows” in name only and don’t have Marshmallow in them at all!) Marshmallow Root is a highly mucilaginous herb (that means it’s gummy, slimy, or slippery) and soothes irritated mucous membranes. This mucilaginous quality moistens, soothes, and helps build and strengthen the lining and tissues throughout your gastrointestinal system, from your mouth clear through to the end of your colon. It also helps your respiratory system because it coats the throat and helps soothe and moisten dry respiratory tissues to help reduce dry, irritated coughs caused by dry, irritated respiratory tissues. Marshmallow Root also soothes and cools the urinary system and helps reduce excess water in the body, and its flavonoid antioxidants support your immune system and your general health. You can’t make your S’mores with it, but Cedar Bear’s alcohol-free TincTract® of Marshmallow Root a great herb to use when your digestive or respiratory systems need a bit of moistening and soothing!
